In case you are wondering why the plan is run the trains on my friend's layout rather than my own, I'll tell you. The MARS, my railroad, is constructed using MTH Realtrax and the rails are made of a copper-nickel alloy. The magnetration which is built into the postwar Lionel locomotives to enhance their tractive effort will not work on alloy rails and with the grades on the MARS, I believe that my old #2338 locomotive would have real difficulty pulling the cars up the grades. Besides, it will be fun to visit with my friend who is an avid collector and operator and run trains on his beautiful layout. So, there is my new quest, to collect the Lionel cars I had as a child and which began my journey into becoming a model railroader!
Here are some shots of the things I have been working on since my last post: (You can click on the photos to enlarge them)
