Well, I cannot believe how much time has passed since last updating my blog. I post almost everyday on my Bo's Trains Facebook Page and I guess between that and working on the railroad I have neglected my website some. There is some big news, but first I want to share that yesterday my daughter, Susie, posted on Facebook a picture and a little story that really touched me. I am pleased that she has such fond memories.
"A train around the Christmas tree has been a must since I was a little girl growing up with a dad who loved trains and still does to this day. He has a model railroad that fills their downstairs that just keeps growing and becoming more of a story. He actually just made the front cover of a national train magazine that just came out on stands two days ago. This train set was gifted to my boys from my dad. Isaac has to of course have a little action figure playing on the tracks while the train is coming." - Susie
My daughter alluded to the big news. Sure enough, for the first time, the Mid-Atlantic Railway System received the attention of a national publication. In the January 2015 issue of Classic Toy Trains the MARS is a featured story. What was really neat was that CTT asked photographer Dennis Brennan to shoot a photo on the MARS for the cover. I was and am still so tickled pink to see the MARS in print and on the cover of CTT. And if that was not enough, Dennis wrote an article about how the cover shot was made and I had the opportunity to be a part of that as well. Pinch me, I think I may be dreaming. Associate Editor Roger Carp wrote a wonderful article about the the MARS and the fun I've had building it.. The whole experience of being a part of the January issue of CTT was simply wonderful. Here is a picture of the front cover.
My friend and photographer, Dennis Brennan, took a stunning photograph and I'm just honored that the MARS was published on the front cover of the magazine.
Here is a peek inside the magazine.
And my very favorite photo in the magazine is this one taken by Dennis Brennan of my wife Mary and me. I could not have built the MARS without the love and support of my lovely wife.
I have much more to tell you about, but I'm going to stop here as the publication of the MARS in CTT is definitely the "big news" in the Burgess household. If you are interested, the January issue of Classic Toy Trains is presently on sale in bookstores such as Barnes & Noble. I won't wait so long to publish my next blog. I promise. Happy model railroading! Bo
I've had a passion for railroads and model railroading for much of my life. Now that I have retired I want to make the Mid Atlantic Railway System (MAR) the best it can be. I hope you will join me as I work to make that dream a reality.
